PORT ADRIANO ENLARGEMENT PROJECT
A project with future for Calvià. Quality, prestige and sustainable development.
Presentation
Since its inauguration in 1992, Port Adriano has meant an important impulse for the area of El Toro and its residents:
- The creation of employment.
- Improvement of the actual beach of El Toro.
- Quality tourism.
Port Adriano has projected the enlargement starting from the following criteria:
- To not affect additional metres of coast.
- To not affect the beach adjacent to the port.
- To respect the natural environment and the sea bed.
- To integrate the needs of the residents of El Toro in the project.
The enlargement project includes:
- 82 new moorings for boats and yachts.
- 470 new parking spaces.
- An enlargement of the commercial and technical areas.
- A ramp to beach and launch small boats.
- A sailing school.
- The stabilizing of the cliff adjacent to the port.
Respect for the Environment
Before the presentation of the project to the Authorities, exhaustive environmental and coastal dynamic researches were commissioned, all of them with positive outcomes.
The enlargement is carried out with a sea-wall parallel to the actual one, therefore additional metres of coast are not used.
The area where the enlargement is projected is not under any environmental protection.
Boats of the length proposed have systems for environmental protection that are much more advanced than those of small boats.
The project includes only 82 new moorings as against the 404 existing moorings, which implies a very reduced increase of the maritime traffic in the area.
As a guarantee of compromise with the Environment, Port Adriano is one of the few nautical facilities in the Balearics that has obtained the environmental certificate of the norm ISO 14001.
A port for everyone
The enlargement will enable one of the long existing demands of the residents in El Toro to be undertaken: the creation of a ramp to beach and launch small boats.
The enlargement also entails the creation of a sailing school, the improvement of the adjacent beach and the stabilizing of the cliff adjacent to the port.
Improvement of the beach
The project includes the improvement of the artificial beach adjacent to the port, extending the shoreline outwards.
The stability of this new beach area –carried out in the past by Port Adriano- is totally guaranteed as it will be carried out with sand of the same quality as that existing.
All the researches prove that the enlargement of the port will have no negative effect on the renewal of the beach waters.
Car park capacity
470 parking spaces will be created, as against 82 new moorings.
Year Round visitors and employment for El Toro, Calvià and the Balearics
Due to the kind of boats that will use the new facilities, the enlargement will create jobs and activity 365 days a year. As well as the tourist activity in the summer months, this kind of boats require important repair and maintenance services during the whole year.
The enlargement will create around 55 direct jobs and over 100 indirect ones during the whole year.
The new commercial area will perpetuate the style of the existing one and for this purpose it will be administrated through rental.
